| At 9:28am Center Moriches Ambulance was dispatched to an EMS call on Railroad Avenue for a subject having respiratory distress. When EMT's arrived on scene they encountered extreme clutter conditions. Firefighters and EMT's had to climb over piles of debris and boxes blocking the living areas and hallways to access the patient.
Firefighters located the patient trapped in the 2 floor bathroom, and quickly realized getting him out of the house was going to be a tough job.
A special call was put out for the Brookhaven Town Technical Rescue team. This team has special equipment needed by the Center Moriches Firefighters to help remove the patient from the house.
Firefighters set ladders up on the outside of the house where the 2nd floor bathroom was located. Using saws firefighters cut the outside wall of the house to gain access to the patient.
With the assistance of the Technical Rescue Team the patient was removed from the home, lowering him down using ropes and a stokes basket. He was transported by Center Moriches Ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Firefighters were on scene approximately 4 ½ hours before going back into service.
