By Ex Chief Bill Renzetti
April 26, 2012

At 11:29pm the Center Moriches Fire Department was requested to assist the Mastic Fire Department at the scene of a residential structure fire on Broadway Avenue in Mastic.

When the Mastic Fire Chief arrived on scene he was confronted with a heavy smoke and fire showing from the home on Broadway. Mastic firefighters were also alerted that 3 occupants were trapped in the house. As Mastic firefighters worked to pull 3 victims from the fire, Mastic Chief called for additional help from the Center Moriches Fire Department & Brookhaven FD to the scene and Mastic Beach FD to stand by and cover the Mastic FD Headquarters. Center Moriches Ambulance also responded to the scene to assist Mastic Ambulance.

CM Firefighters stood by at the scene as the Rapid intervention Team while CM EMT's worked to resuscitate and transport one of the 3 fire victims rescued from the burning house.

Despite the valiant efforts of the Mastic Firefighters the fire claimed the lives of two occupants; the 3rd occupant was transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

There were no firefighter injuries reported. The cause of the fire is in under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.

Center Moriches firefighters were back in service within 2 hours.
