| Just after 5pm firefighters from Center Moriches were responding to Mastic Beach to assist MB Firefighters at the scene of a brush fire in the area of Dahlia Drive and Riviera Drive.
Mastic Beach Chief requested assistance from Brookhaven, Center Moriches and Mastic with their brush trucks to help contain numerous fires that were spreading rapidly through the area.
Firefighters were on scene approximately an hour ½ before being released form Mastic Beach.
At 7pm just as Center Moriches Firefighters were cleaning up from the Mastic Beach fire, the Mastic Fire Department requested help for a brush fire in the area of the North Service Road of Sunrise Hwy and Barnes Road. Once again CM firefighters climbed aboard unit 5-4-12 and were off to fight another brush fire.
Once in the woods CM firefighters met up with other local firefighters from Brookhaven, Yaphank, Ridge and Manorville who were also called in to assist Mastic. The fire was quickly contained and firefighters were back in service an hour later. |
