On April 18, 2017, Center Moriches Fire Department Ambulance took part in a full-scale training exercise involving Stony Brook University Hospital. This year’s exercise tested the hospital’s capability in handling a patient influx resulting from a mass casualty event.

The mock incident took place at the Setauket Fire Department sub-station on Nichols Road and simulated a large truck driving through a crowd of people. The training included approximately 50 “victim actors” needing triage, treatment and transport to Stony Brook hospital’s emergency department.

The exercise was conducted with the assistance of New York State Departments of Health and Office of Homeland Security, New York State University Police Department, Suffolk County Departments of Health, Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services.
