Just after 11am on Friday, Center Moriches firefighters responded to a report of a car fire on Moriches Middle Island Road by the entrance to the William Floyd Middle School.

While responding to the call firefighters were updated that a car had struck a utility pole and the car and pole were on fire. While firefighters worked to extinguish the Fire EMS personnel evaluated the driver who was not injured.

Moriches Middle Island Road was closed for several hours while the utility company replaced the damaged pole.
