Just before 10am on Saturday Center Moriches Firefighters were requested to the report of a capsized boat in the Moriches Bay in the area of Moriches Inlet.

According to witnesses, a man on a 20′ center console boat was fishing in the Inlet when it took a wave over the back of the boat capsizing it.

Center Moriches Fire Department launched 2 marine units to the area. Assistance was also requested from the East Moriches FD and Eastport FD for additional rescue boats. Once on scene Center Moriches firefighters tied up to the capsized boat in the bay just north of the inlet.

The fisherman who was uninjured swam to the jetty on the west side of the inlet and was picked by the US Coast Guard.

Center Moriches Firefighters were back in service within an hour.
