Just after 7pm on Tuesday, Center Moriches Firefighters were requested to assist the Mastic Fire Department at the scene of a Commercial building fire at Ralph's Italian Ices on Surrey Circle in Shirley.

Mastic Firefighters were dispatched to Ralph's at 6:47pm after Suffolk County 911 received numerous calls that the building was on Fire. Mastic units arrived and found heavy fire coming from the side of the building.

Firefighters from the surrounding area battled the fire in frigid temperatures for 2 hours before bringing it under control.

One occupant from the apartment above Ralph's was able to escape the flames by jumping from a second-floor window. 4 residents were transported to a local hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

Center Moriches Firefighters were requested to stand-by at the fire with its Rapid Intervention Team.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshall's Office and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.

Center Moriches Firefighters were back in service by 10pm.
