On Wednesday, February 28, 2018 a special ceremony was held at the Center Moriches Fire Department. Firefighters invited all community members to join them as thirty-seven year old Keith Caputo, was sworn in as an honorary member of the Center Moriches Fire Department.

Keith's family and friends watched as he raised his right hand and repeated the words spoken to him by Assistant Chief Ian Foley.
Honorary Member Caputo was presented with his department issued I.D. card, fire helmet, and fire department jacket, as well as a plaque proclaiming his status in the department.

Mr. Caputo who has down syndrome has made it his life's mission to help others. He is the founder of "Helping Makes U Happy", a nonprofit organization whose mission is to demonstrate how every human is capable of making a difference through volunteering, and to inspire others to make a difference in their community with the belief that doing good not only helps the lives of the less fortunate, but their lives as well.

The Center Moriches Fire Department would like to thank everyone who came out in support of Keith on his special night.
