Just after 4am on Friday Center Moriches Firefighters and EMTs were requested to an auto accident with injuries on Montauk Highway and Cedar Street in Moriches.

Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle on its side and the driver trapped inside. The vehicle was traveling west on Montauk Hwy when it struck a utility pole, overturned, and crashed into a second pole in front of Greek Bites Grill & Cafe.

While emergency personnel stabilized the occupant inside the vehicle, firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" to remove the roof and extricate the driver. Once free, the driver was transported by Center Moriches Ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Montauk Highway was shut down for several hours while utility crews replaced the damaged utility poles.
