- A hurricane warning is when a hurricane is expected in your area. If local authorities advise you to evacuate, leave immediately
- The eye of a hurricane is the calm center of the storm. The worst parts of a hurricane come just before and after the eye have passed over your area.
- Hurricanes are classified by wind strength known as the Saffir / Simpson Scale in the following categories:
Category 1- Winds of 74-95 mph
Category 2- Winds of 96-110 mph
Category 3- Winds of 111-130 mph
Category 4- Winds of 131-155 mph
Category 5- Winds of 156 mph & up
