The Center Moriches Fire Department Juniors recently held their Annual Installation Dinner and Awards Ceremony to honor the officers and members of this fine organization for their dedicated service to the community. The Junior Fire Department program gives young men and women from the community the opportunity to learn about being a volunteer firefighter through training exercises and other social activities.
One of the awards presented to the juniors was for their work over the summer at the Brookhaven Town Firefighters Museum in Ridge. Their main project was to restore the "Housemen's Room" to what it would have looked like during the early 1900's.
During the work details, the Juniors cleaned out the housemen's room, moving the contents to the new archives room and completed the repainting. "We are now working on acquiring the period appropriate furnishings to compete the project" Glenn Madigan Juniors leader stated. "Our hopes are to finish in time for a spring 2010 opening of the room to the public".
In addition, the Center Moriches Juniors have completed some much needed painting in other areas of the museum. The Juniors also promoted the museum at the Fire Departments open house in October 2009 where they handed out over 1000 pamphlets and collected $100.00 toward the new truck building.
Merit awards were also handed out to Lt. Andrew Schlosberg, Secretary Dylan Madigan, and Rafael Lopez.
