Center Moriches Firefighters worked with nearly a dozen local fire departments to contain a fast moving brush fire along Eastport Manor Road in Eastport.

CM Firefighters were called at 1:10pm and responded to the scene with their brush truck and Fire Police unit. Once on scene firefighters went to work containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby houses on Sabrina Drive.

Center Moriches ambulance was also requested to stand by at the East Moriches Ambulance building on Montauk Hwy to assist them with any additional EMS calls they might have during the fire.

Firefighters were on scene in Eastport for just over an hour before being released.

While Center Moriches Firefighters were returning to the firehouse they were alerted to a brush fire behind Our Lady Queen of Apostles Catholic School on Ocean Avenue.

Firefighters quickly extinguished that fire and were back in service within 20 minutes.

Due to the strong winds and very dry conditions the National Weather Service had issued a warning this morning warning of the rapid spread of brush fires today. Numerous other brush fires were also reported today in Manorville, Westhampton, Rocky Point and East Patchogue.
