For the 2nd time this week, firefighters from the Center Moriches Fire Department had to use the “Jaws of Life” to help extricate the occupants of a motor vehicle crash.

At 6:25am firefighters were dispatched to an auto accident with injuries on the Moriches By-Pass at Oak Street. Firefighters arrived to find 2 cars involved in the crash and a total of 5 people injured.

As fire department EMT’s and Paramedic’s stabilized the injured inside the vehicle, firefighters used the Hurst tool (know as the “Jaws of Life”) to pry the crushed doors open to allow for better access and removal of the injured occupants.

Additional ambulances were requested from Mastic Ambulance, East Moriches Community Ambulance and Manorville Community Ambulance to assist with transporting the injured to local hospitals.
