At 10:21pm on Thursday Firefighters from the Center Moriches Fire Department were requested to assist the Mastic Fire Department at the scene of a structure fire on Lexington Road in Shirley.

Mastic Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Lexington Road just before 10pm after numerous 911 calls reporting smoke from the windows. Mastic Chief arrived on scene to find the basement of the Shirley house heavily involved in fire.

It took firefighters approximately an hour to bring the fire under control.

A Mastic firefighter was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshalls Office.

Center Moriches Firefighters were back in service within 2 hours.
