Early Saturday morning over 500 participants took part in the Titan Run at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck on Montauk Highway. Touted as Long Island's premiere obstacle course, it tests racers who have to run 5 kilometers through wooded trails laced with over 20 obstacles. However, it was the emergency responders who were put to the test this morning.

Shortly after the race started injured runners began flooding the first aid station. Other participants with more serious injuries had to be carried out of the woods by EMS personnel on backboards and stretchers.

As the amount of injured increased additional resources were brought in to assist the Center Moriches Fire Department’s EMT’s and Paramedics. Ambulances, A Woodland Rescue Team, and Suffolk County’s Major Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV) responded to the camp to assist in treating the injured.

By the end of the event 36 people were treated by EMS personnel on scene, 6 of them were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
