Just after 4am Firefighters from East Moriches were called to the Walden Ponds Complex on Walden Court for smoke in one of the buildings.

When East Moriches Firefighters arrived on scene they were met by heavy smoke and fire from one of the units in the complex. Additional resources were immediately requested from Center Moriches FD, Eastport FD, Manorville FD, Mastic FD, Mastic Beach FD, Westhampton Beach FD, East Moriches Ambulance and Mastic Ambulance.

Center Moriches Firefighters responded to the scene with an Engine, Tower Ladder, and Fire Police unit and assisted East Moriches Firefighters with extinguishing the fire and overhaul operations.

It took firefighters just over 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. There were no injuries reported, however several families were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Brookhaven Town Fire Marshalls Office.

Center Moriches Fire Fighters were back in service within 2 hours.
