Just after 4:30pm on Saturday Center Moriches Fire Department Water Rescue Team was requested to assist Suffolk County Police with a shallow water rescue in Bellport Bay by the Old Inlet.

Local marine units made several attempts but were unsuccessful in reaching the 20’ boat which was stranded in the shallow waters off the Old Inlet.

CMFD Water Rescue Team responded to the Smith Point Marina where they launched their 16‘ Zodiac Boat and headed out to the area.
Once on scene a rescue swimmer was deployed to the stranded vessel and evaluated the 2 occupants and determined they were not injured and did not require medical attention.

The 2 occupants were moved to the Fire Department boat and brought out to deeper waters where Sea Tow was waiting to return them to shore

Center Moriches FD Water Rescue Team was back in service with 45 minutes.
