At 5:31 am Center Moriches Firefighters and EMT's were requested to the scene of an auto accident with injuries east bound on Sunrise Highway east of Wading River Road.

When the Center Moriches Firefighters arrived on scene, they found one car had slid off the roadway and struck a tree on the right shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the SCPD Seventh Squad at (631) 852-8752.

Sunrise Highway was closed east bound at Wading River Road for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
