At 11:53pm on Wednesday, Center Moriches Firefighters were alerted to a house fire on Montauk Highway across from Bay Pointe Drive in Moriches.

Firefighters arrived to find the 2-story vacant building fully engulfed in flames and immediately called for additional resources.

While Center Moriches Firefighters worked to extinguish the heavy fire conditions on the first and second floors of the home, additional assistance was requested to the scene from the East Moriches FD, Mastic FD, Brookhaven FD and Mastic Ambulance. Manorville FD also responded to the Center Moriches Firehouse to cover any additional alarms that were received.

It took firefighters 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.

While there were no firefighter injuries reported, Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was found inside the vacant house.

Firefighters operated on scene for over two and a half hours before being released.

Such a shame to see this Beautiful house that had so much history. I spent many years at Farmhouse Farms selling Christmas 🎄 trees and of course the Pumpkins. And working the fields growing vegetables which were enjoyed by many of the local people it's a sad day for Moriches that this iconic land mark is no longer
