This morning, our probationary firefighters completed bailout training one of the most important skills they’ll ever learn.
A bailout is used when fire conditions rapidly deteriorate in the room a firefighter is operating in on an upper floor, leaving no safe interior escape route. In those moments, firefighters deploy their personal safety rope, anchor to a solid window frame, and exit under control, lowering themselves to the ground or to a safer level below.
It’s a high-risk maneuver, and we make sure our newest firefighters are prepared for anything.
