| This morning, Center Moriches Fire Department will be conducting Ice Rescue Training at Kalers Pond.
You may see fire apparatus staged along Montauk Highway and members operating on the ice in cold-water rescue suits. This is a planned training exercise.
We train in real-world winter conditions to ensure our firefighters are ready to respond when seconds matter. Residents are welcome to observe from a safe location; however, please keep a safe distance and allow our crews the space they need to operate safely.
As temperatures rise above freezing next week, ice conditions will begin to deteriorate. Please remember that no ice is ever 100% safe. What appears solid today can quickly become unstable.
Stay off the ice and help us prevent an avoidable emergency. |
