At approximately 2:43 a.m. Sunday, the Center Moriches Fire Department was requested to respond to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the railroad overpass on Montauk Highway near Wilcox Avenue.

Emergency personnel arrived to find a single vehicle overturned on its side in the westbound lane of Montauk Highway.

The vehicle had left the roadway and struck the railroad bridge abutment before overturning. The impact was significant enough that the engine was separated from the vehicle.

The driver had exited the vehicle prior to the arrival of firefighters. Crews secured the vehicle and contained an oil spill while EMTs evaluated the driver, who ultimately refused medical treatment.

All units were back in service within approximately 30 minutes.
