| Shortly after 1 p.m., the Center Moriches Fire Department and the Marine Incident Response Team were activated for a reported vessel taking on water in the Atlantic Ocean, south of Moriches Inlet.
CMFD Marine 26 arrived on scene and located a disabled 21-foot vessel with two people aboard. The vessel was not taking on water.
Marine 26 and the Suffolk County Police Marine Mike remained on scene until a commercial towing vessel arrived to assist.
While marine units were returning, the Eastport Fire Department fireboat encountered a second disabled vessel in the ocean just west of Moriches Inlet jetty. The Eastport crew stayed with the vessel until it could be assisted back through the inlet.
Both incidents were handled safely and efficiently through the excellent teamwork and coordination of our local fire department marine units, the Suffolk County Police Department Marine Bureau, and the United States Coast Guard.
All marine units were back in service within 30 minutes. |
