| At approximately 8:50am on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Center Moriches Firefighters and EMS personnel under the command of Chief William Renzetti, were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the North Service Road of Sunrise Highway at North Cozine Road. Initial reports indicated a car into a house.
Upon the arrival, firefighters found Stony Brook Paramedic Unit 5-Medic-1 into the side of a house. The collision, caused by the paramedic swerving to miss an object in the road, severed an electrical pole in half, and took out the side steps of the home. Neither the paramedic, nor the residents were injured in the accident. The paramedic vehicle appeared to be totaled.
Firefighters expertly managed the scene, securing the vehicle and checking the structure. Fire Police immediately diverted traffic around the scene. Center Moriches FD EMS Personnel examined the driver finding him to be uninjured.
The accident is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department and the EMS Division of the University Hospital at Stony Brook. |
