| At 12:11 p.m. Sunday, the Center Moriches Fire Department and the Marine Incident Response Team (MIRT) were dispatched to a report of a boat taking on water in Moriches Bay near the mouth of the Forge River. Center Moriches FD Marine 26 arrived within minutes and found the vessel grounded themselves on the beach at Osprey Park in Mastic Beach.
With the vessel secure and not taking on water, mutual-aid Marine units were released.
With summer wrapping up this Labor Day, a reminder: emergencies happen all year long on the water, and the Marine Incident Response Team is ready to assist year-round. Always wear a life jacket, check conditions before venturing out, and file a float plan. If you run into trouble on the water call 911 or use VHF Ch 16 for help.
Thank you to our MIRT members for assisting and keeping our local waters safe |
