September 1, 2023

At 4:45 pm the Moriches Bay Marine Incident Response Team was requested to respond to the report of a capsized boat in the Atlantic Ocean in the area of the Moriches Inlet.

Under the command of the Mastic Beach Fire Chief the task force made their way out of the Moriches Inlet which was extremely rough due to the multiple tropical systems out in the Atlantic Ocean.

While responding additional information was received that boat had washed ashore 3/4 of a mile west of the Moriches Inlet and it was noted that the key was in the on position.

Within 20 minutes of dispatching the team 5 boats from the Task Force were on scene and immediately began working with USCG boat 29266 from Station Shinnecock searching the area for any potential persons in the water.

Assisted by Suffolk County Police aviation and marine unit, emergency personnel searched the area for just over an hour before it was determined that this inflatable boat had fallen off another vessel and that was no one in the water.

The boat was retrieved by Suffolk County Parks Police, and all units were released at 6:05pm.
