| Just after 1:30 this afternoon, the Center Moriches Fire Department was activated for a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Montauk Highway at the bend by Kalers Pond.
While responding, firefighters were updated that one occupant was unresponsive and trapped in one of the vehicles.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-car head-on collision with multiple injuries. Crews quickly went to work using the “Jaws of Life” to remove the driver’s side door of one vehicle to gain access to the trapped occupant.
The occupants of the second vehicle were able to self-extricate and were evaluated on scene by EMS before being transported to a local hospital for their injuries.
The trapped occupant was removed from the vehicle and transported by Suffolk County Police Aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.
Montauk Highway was closed in the area while Suffolk County Police conducted their investigation. |
